About fuel economy conversions
Fuel economy conversions are essential when comparing vehicles from different countries or reading international car reviews. The US uses miles per gallon (MPG), Europe and Australia use liters per 100 kilometers (L/100km), and parts of Asia use kilometers per liter (km/L).
Note that L/100km is an inverse measurement — lower numbers mean better efficiency. A car that gets 30 MPG (US) uses approximately 7.8 L/100km. The UK uses imperial MPG which differs from US MPG because it uses a larger gallon (4.546L vs 3.785L).
